About Volume Converter
Volume has more conflicting definitions than any other everyday unit family, and recipes are where it bites: a US pint and an imperial pint differ by a fifth.
This converter is explicit about which definition it uses for every unit, covering metric, US customary, imperial and cubic measures side by side.
Frequently asked questions
US or imperial gallon?
Both. A US gallon is 3.785 litres and an imperial gallon is 4.546 litres, a difference of about 20 percent.
Is a cup a standard measure?
A US legal cup is 240 ml, a US customary cup is about 236.6 ml, and a metric cup is 250 ml. All three are listed.
Can I convert to weight?
Not directly - that depends on the density of the substance. Volume and mass are different quantities.
