How Reading Time Calculator works in your browser
Words are counted and divided by a reading speed — 225 words per minute by default for silent reading — to estimate reading time. Speaking time uses a slower presentation pace of about 150 words per minute.
Both speeds are adjustable. Dense or technical text reads noticeably slower, so lowering the rate gives a more realistic estimate for that kind of material.
